About Me

Scott Hattox Art

About the Artist

I am a self trained artist who has spent a lifetime obsessed with comics< anime and science fiction- the dominating subjects in his portfolio. I spent most of his early career creating paintings for friends and producing requests for commissions by word of mouth.

In 2014, I began showing his material in small galleries and underground art shows, and by 2015 I began exhibiting my paintings at San Diego Comic Con Internaional. My penchnat for carturing the spirit of Star Wars, Anime, Marvel and other “nerdy” enterprises made convention settings a perfect fit.

Visitors to my booth dont just get a view of his unique and intriguing creations, but also an engaging experience with an enthusiastic artist who is always eager to converse to anything from brush stroke technique to the infamous “Han shot first” debate. I have subsequently shown and painted live in conventions around the country that specialize in science fiction, horror, video gaming, and comic books. In 2017, I began working with renowed popculture artist Rob Prior, and been able to collaberate with his mentor on multiple pieces, broadeningboth his techniqe and subject matter. I am best known for my large scale paintings of iconic charaters-a veritable rarity today, as most artists on similar subject matter have fallen away from classical techniques and produce digitally. I paint in multible mediums, primarily gouache on watercolor paper and acrylic on canvas. I  work out of Rob Prior Studios in Hollywood and his own workshop in Rancho Mirage.

Inspiration

I take my cues from all aspects of pop culture - from films to graphic illustrators to graffiti and cartoons.  Even seeing a striking color combination or mix of shapes in a grocery store can cause him to pause and take notes.  I am a collectible afficionado and gets a great deal of inspiration from posing (aka playing with) his collection.

Techniques

I use a variety of mediums in both original art and hand-embellished reproductions. I most often use formats include gouache on cold-pressed paper, acrylic on canvas, wood panel, and paint/airbrush  custom items like cars, helmets, or clothing.

Career Highlights

My favorite career highlight is getting to exhibit and live paint annually at Comic-Con International.  I have also worked as exclusive artist contracted to custom design over 30 paintings for a single Hollywood VIP.  I have  been mentored by some of the most prestigious pop culture artists working and is professionally sponsored by Holbein paints.  Now has licensing with Marvel and has a children's book coming out in the fall.
